As a Christmas gift I recived the book The Gospel According to COCO CHANEL life lessons from the worlds most elegant woman by Karen Karbo; an excellent read. This book was a novel about the life of Garielle Chanel aka CoCo Chanel. The writer did an excellent job at capturing Chanel's biography and telling her a shopping adventure at the sametime. A quest to find an authentic Chanel vintage jacket. Which raised a very interesting question ...the House of Chanel has had a few designers since CoCo Chanel's death in 1971. Until Largerfeld began designing Haute Couture for the house in 1982. Largerfeld the most profound and notable making Chanels RTW (ready to wear) line young, fresh, and trendy - but still simple elegant
classy and signature Chanel style. I do wonder after reading this book if Chanel designed and made by Largerfeld is actually REAL Chanel or as the writer put in Chanel-Chanel... on one end we have the fabulous Karl Largerfeld that pumped life into this line with his amazing point of views. But, is this actually "Chanel Largerfeld" . I wonder how CoCo Chanel would feel about the Largerfeld collections? Her prestigeous name on these garments; as the book noted Chanel was shocked at the first site of mini skirts in the 60's. She thought it was ridiculous. Largerfeld's risuqe play on fashion art and sexuality may not set well with CoCo. 
The book described CoCo as being a simplictic elegant couture designer; with a love for comfort and style. A perfectionist... Ironically she welcomed replicas and faux Chanel designs stating they were free promotion and those that knew real qaulity and authenticity would come to her if they wanted REAL Chanel. I guess Karl Largerfeld should be considered the new Chanel...i believe that there will be Vintage "Karl Largerfeld" collection for the house of Chanel. I would imagine; the exclusivity would be parellel. As it is much of the statement pieces that Largerfeld
designs are limited editions and so few are produced ie. ... I wonder who will be next to take these fabulous reigns when Largerfeld is no longer designing. Will the Board of Directors countine to simply produce from the classic Chanel collection of Chanel-Chanel and Chanel Largerfeld patterns? Causing the House to fall from grace and become a so so Fashion House? Will the fashion house cease to exhist? I doubt these things would happen... I couldnt imagine...I could imagine a new style GOD like Largerfeld ... trying to one day fill his shoes maybe Jason Wu?... Rick Owens?...maybe...in about 20 years ... hmmmm 1 to think about...
